The 2016 Rio Olympics was one to remember. This year’s Olympics featured many epic wins, nasty injuries and huge drama. In honor of the closing ceremonies on Aug. 20, let’s take a look back at the biggest moments from the Rio Olympics!
We have to talk about the drama that turned up the heat at the Olympics. Olympic gold medalist Ryan Lochte, 32, revealed in an interview with NBC that he and three other swimmers was robbed at gunpoint on Aug. 14. Following an investigation by Brazilian police, Ryan was accused of lying about the robbery. Ryan insisted that it happened, but his teammates revealed at a live press conference on Aug. 17 that the robbery was fabricated after a fight at a gas station.

Let’s take a detour away from the scandal and remember the most incredible wins from the Rio Olympics. Simone Biles, 19, stole the show at the 2016 sports event and became the girl we couldn’t keep our eyes off of. She won 4 gold medals in Rio, including 3 individual medals. The adorable, tiny gymnast proved she was a forced to be reckoned with on the floor, vault, balance beam and more.

Michael Phelps, 31, the most decorated Olympian of all-time, won 5 gold medals in Rio. Once again, he showed that he’s the king when he’s in the water. From winning gold in the 4×100 meter relay to reclaiming the top spot in the 200-meter butterfly, Michael went out with a bang at his last Olympics.
Despite these amazing wins, the Olympics featured some pretty devastating injuries. French gymnast Samir Ait Said, 26, broke his leg during his dismount on the vault in the men’s gymnastics qualifier. When he landed, Samir’s leg twisted into a gruesome direction. Fortunately, he was up and walking a few days later!
Armenian weightlifter Andranik Karapetyan, 20, suffered a horrific elbow injury while attempting a clean and jerk lift in the 7k weightlifting event.
