Finally! The 2016 RNC platform was officially voted on and released July 18. The plan that will represent the conservative party’s take on various issues reveals it’s policy layout for same-sex marriage, pornography, religion and more.
After days of discussion and back-and-forth debates, the RNC platform is here and the representation uncovers a major shift for the conservative party. There are several notable issues in the platform to mention.
No abortion:
The platform says the party will “oppose the use of public funds to perform or promote abortion or to fund organizations, like Planned Parenthood, so long as they provide or refer for elective abortions or sell fetal body parts rather than provide healthcare. We urge all states and Congress to make it a crime to acquire, transfer, or sell fetal tissues from elective abortions for research, and we call on Congress to enact a ban on any sale of fetal body parts.” Noting that the party, “asserts the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental right to life which cannot be infringed.”
No equal pay:
The Republican party blocked the Paycheck Fairness Act, that they were originally going to move forward with. When deciding the platform July 18, the party unanimously voted to block the bill, which would ban salary secrecy and tighten rules to in order to change the gender wage gap.
Other issues the platform touches upon include same-sex marriage. The GOP rejected an amendment to discuss same-sex marriage. The platform states, “traditional marriage and family, based on marriage between one man and one woman, is the foundation for a free society and has for millennia been entrusted with rearing children and instilling cultural values.”

Parents can require their LGBT children to go through “conversion therapy.” The amendment said, “We support the right of parents to determine the proper treatment or therapy, for their minor children,” according to TIME. “Perkins originally drafted a more explicit embrace of the practice, but amended the text after consultations with top RNC officials.”
The 2016 RNC platform goes deeper into issues saying “lawful gun ownership enables Americans to exercise their God-given right of self- defense,” children raised in “traditional homes are “healthier,” education includes a “good understanding of the bible,” coal is a “clean” form of energy, and pornography is a “public health crisis.” You can access the the full 2016 RNC platform here for more on these issues.
