The U.S. was dominant going into the finals of the women’s 100m hurdles, with teammates Brianna Rollins, 24, and Kristi Castlin, 28, finishing in first and second place after the qualifying heats. Fellow teammate Nia Ali, 28, also made the finals so the Americans had over a third of the field of competitors. The ladies were hoping to dominate again Aug. 17 when they ran for the gold medal and ultimately it was Briana that blazed past the finish line to Olympic glory with a time, but she was followed by Nia and Kristi next to cross, making this the first US gold-silver-bronze sweep in track during the Rio games!

This is an event where a tenth of a second means the difference between getting on the podium or no medal at all. In the qualifiers, Brianna’s time of 12.54 was by far the best from the field and she was looking to dominate yet again for Olympic glory. In the final race she she did it with a time of 15:48.

The U.S. women’s track and field team has had an explosive time at the Rio 2016 games. Allyson Felix, 30, made history with her seventh track medal in the women’s 400m Aug. 15, surpassing Jackie Joyner-Kersee, 54, as the greatest female track and field Olympian of all time. Unfortunately, she had to settle for the silver medal after Bahamian Shaunae Miller, 22, literally dove hands and torso first across the finish line to rob Allyson of the gold medal that she fought so hard for.
