Making the game even more interesting is the fact that EIGHT players on USA’s men’s volleyball team are first-timers in the Olympics, which means their skill set compared to other Olympians is a little hard to measure. Meanwhile, hosting country Brazil has already secured their spot in the quarterfinals, and will be facing off against their South American neighbor, Argentina, next. These are the teams that #TeamUSA is up against in the quarterfinals — Poland, Italy, Iran, Brazil, and Argentina, Russia, and Canada.

Under the talented eye of coach John Speraw, #TeamUSA dominated #TeamMexico on Aug. 15. “I am really happy to get this win and move on to the quarterfinals, when early on in this tournament, it looked like it was going to be a difficult challenge,” John told FIVB. But the fight is not over! Outside hitter Taylor Sander admits that the road to the quarterfinals has been a bumpy one! “Those first two matches, we weren’t playing USA volleyball. We weren’t aggressive, we weren’t giving our heart every single point.” Let’s hope #TeamUSA turns it up a notch!
