The ladies had an epic battle against China in four brutal sets (22-25, 25-17, 25-19, 25-19) on the final day of preliminary play Aug 14. Hopefully they got plenty of rest after that instense match to take on the strong Japanese team.

The U.S. team is coached by volleyball legend Karch Kiraly, 55, who has three gold medals of his own from his days as a player, and is looking to become the first person to claim gold medals as both a coach and player in the sport. The U.S. women have never won a gold medal, but their chances are far greater with such an amazing leader calling the shots. He served the team as an assistant coach in the London Olympics, but this is his first games as the team’s head coach and he knows what it takes to win Olympic gold. Fingers crossed for a great match and the U.S. ladies to make the semifinals!
