Katy, 31, couldn’t stay away for too long without making an epic return with new music! The “Firework” singer just released ‘Rise’ (aka, our new favorite song), and it’s a powerful tune to rise above fear. Not long after, a video for the song was released, featuring Simone Biles, Gabby Douglas, Ashton Eaton and more USA Athletes headed to RIO for the 2016 Olympics!
In footage provided by NBC olympics, the inspiring video shows iconic athletes in the midst of their most liberating moments in their individual sports and training. Kyrie Irving, Simone Biles, Michael Phelps and Missy Franklin are just some of the many strong champions in the uplifting video.
Katy tweeted a candid and emotional video explaining why she wrote ‘Rise,’ and she also tells her followers why she’s been “taking her time spending late nights in the studio.” HINT: A NEW ALBUM!

“You’ll be surprised, I will still rise,” are lyrics from the song that are repeated in the anthem, along with,”Don’t doubt it; Victory is in your veins; You know it; And you will not negotiate it.” The video ends with the symbolic Olympic rings lighting up a black screen spitting fire.
As if the Olympics weren’t exciting enough, they just got a whole lot better. Katy also revealed that “NBC Olympics has chosen to use it [‘Rise’] as an anthem before and during the Rio Games,” in a new tweet, and we think it’s a perfect fit!
