This is getting CRAZY! In a breaking news press conference with the police chief of Brazil, he confirms that a gun was involved in Ryan Lochte’s ‘robbery’ story, but the swimmers were NOT robbed! He reveals that one of the swimmer’s had to be ‘controlled’ because of ‘anger!’ Get the INSANE details here!
After a press conference August 18, with the Brazilian police, we are finally getting some answers and insight into the alleged “robbery” Ryan Lochte, 32, claims went down at a gas station in Rio. The Brazilian police chief says there were no robberies that occurred, but he did however reveal that the athletes were held at gunpoint, making that part of Ryan’s story appearing to be true. He did admit that the gun was a legal weapon.”Right now they [police] can affirm that there were no robberies the way it was reported or claimed by the athletes. They [the athletes] were not victims of the criminal actions they reported,” Fernando Veloso, said. “We have not concluded our investigation.”
The police chief did reveal that “one of the swimmers was very angry and a weapon was used to control him.” He went on to say that a security guard at the gas station admitted, “Ryan was more physically angry or nervous.” Fernando informed the public that they can not say that “Ryan was the only one responsible,” for what happened that night.
As for the athletes being charged — “One or all of them might be charged for false commitment of a crime and for private assets of the gas station,” the police chief said. However, he did clarify they have not been charged right now. He said they “need to finalize the investigation, but in theory that could be the case.”

This press conference comes just a few short hours after a CCTV video was released by TMZ that showed Ryan and his teammates, Jack Conger, Gunnar Bentz, and Jimmy Feigen at the gas station they claimed to be at. The detailed video revealed them exiting the gas station bathroom in Rio that night. In the footage, we can see gas station employees approach the athletes. At the end of the video, you can merely make out the guys who appear to be putting their hands up while some of them seem to get on the ground, and one (who is reportedly Ryan) remains standing. The guys were allegedly forced to pay for the damages when putting their hands up.
But, Ryan has been sticking by his story that he and his three teammates were robbed and held up at gunpoint at the Brazil gas station on their way back to the Olympic Village. However, Jack and Gunner were later detained on a plane heading back to the U.S., where they admitted that the robbery story was completely “fabricated” when they spoke to reporters. Ryan is currently back in the U.S., and his teammates are still in Brazil at this time.
We need to point out that we have not yet heard from Ryan, or the other U.S. swimmers at this time following the conference. There are a lot of questions still to be had about the situation, but the story remains under investigation. We will keep you updated as this story develops, but here is everything we know.
