The documentary filmmakers behind ‘Making A Murderer’ are rejoicing that justice has finally been done in the case of Brendan Dassey. Keep reading for what they had to say about the news that he could finally go free after a decade in prison thanks to a judge overturning his case.

As we have done for the past 10 years, we will continue to document the story as it unfolds, and follow it wherever it may lead,” Making A Murderer filmmakers Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos‘ rep tells HollywoodLife.com in a statement.
Federal judge William Duffin handed down the shocking reversal Aug. 12 that found investigators repeatedly made false promises to Brendan Dassey, 26, and coerced the involuntary confession out of the then 16-year-old to the rape and murder of 25-ear-old Teresa Halbach. There had been no evidence tying Brendan to anything in the case except for what authorities twisted him into saying, and that was so well documented in Making a Murderer.

Brendan isn’t a free man yet though, as the state of Wisconsin has 90 days to refile the case against him, but without his confession there’s really nothing tying him to the murder. If they don’t refile, Brendan will go free. They could also appeal the judge’s decision and Brendan’s lawyers could then bail him out of prison.
The twisting tale of Brendan and his uncle Steven Avery‘s rape and murder trial and convictions had the nation gripped when the 10 part series dropped on Netflix in Dec. 2015. It created a media sensation with so much attention being brought to all the wrongdoings in their cases by both the police and prosecutors that is SO good to see justice finally coming out of Laura and Moira’s groundbreaking storytelling.
