Simone Biles, 19, just became the first American woman to win Olympic gold on a vault, taking home her third gold medal of Rio 2016 in the process. The incredible Olympian averaged an insanely impressive 15.966 in her two events, and she was rewarded with the gold medal Aug. 14.
The vault event was totally Simone Biles‘ to lose, as the 19-year-old went into the competition with a nearly perfect score in the qualifiers of 16.050. She by far pulled off the most technically difficult vaults of everyone else in the event, and her two routines were absolutely flawless. Maria Paseka of Russia won the silver medal, and Giulia Steingruber of Switzerland won the bronze.

Simone entered the event so far ahead of her nearest competitors, Hong Un-jong, 27, of North Korea and Giulia Steingruber, 22, of Switzerland. She would have had to really mess up horribly to not be in medal contention and especially in the hunt for the gold medal.
