The Jamaicans are coming! Track and field events get underway on Aug. 13, in what should be a real, true test of athleticism. Events including the women’s 100m and men’s long jump will be in their final stages. You can watch who wins what here from 8:30am EST.
Now, track and field really separates itself from the pack and arguably features the most popular event at the Games. The 100m in both the women’s and men’s is always a spectacle to behold and the preliminaries get underway. All eyes will be on the fastest man in the world Usain Bolt as he aims to go gold once again. There’s just no beating him whatsoever. However, we can pin our hopes on Jason Gatlin and Trayvon Bromell, who should be in the running for medals too.
In the women’s 100m, Tori Bowie is the fourth favorite for the US. But all eyes are on Dutch sprinter Dafne Schippers, who is expected to run away with this event. Jamaican challengers Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce and Elaine Thompson being the only other real contenders. On Aug. 13 we will see the Final, so medals are at stake!

Another final that’ll definitely peak interest is the men’s long jump. America has been represented by Jeff Henderson, Michael Hartfield and Jarrion Lawson, with Jeff and Jarrion rated among the hopefuls vying for Olympic gold. But they will be up against GB’s Greg Rutherford, the undisputed master at this event. He won gold in 2012, so will be the man to beat.
It could be a tough day for the US on the track and field, with not many expecting much in the 100m. But you never know what can happen on the day. Our fingers are crossed!
