This is SO amazing! 17 years after ‘The Blair Witch Project’ terrified us all and went on to become a blockbuster, we’re getting a fresh sequel to the horror classic. The film — simply titled ‘Blair Witch’ — was done in secret and dropped for the first time at Comic-Con July 22, but we have the trailer for you right here!
Somehow Lionsgate Films managed to keep the movie a total secret before thrilling the world at 2016 Comic-Con showing the movie and dropping a trailer for the rest of us to see. The film was shot in Vancouver and titled The Woods to throw people off from knowing what it really was. It’s so amazing in this day and age that something as huge as Blair Witch could be filmed, edited, and ready to be released without anyone knowing about it!
The movie tells the story of the brother of Heather Donahue, who is going on a mission to find out what happened to his sister who went missing so many years ago. James Allen McCune of Showtime’s Shameless gets sent a tape that might have clues to what happened to Heather, so he leads a group of college students into the Black Hills Forest of Maryland where the first film took place. They’s looking to find out more about Heather’s disappearance and its connection to the legend of Blair Witch. What could possibly go wrong?

Of course things seem to go well at first when a pair of locals offer to guide the group through the dark and twisting woods and it’s all downhill from there, as night sets in so does the terror (did they not take heed of the “No entry after nightfall” sign on the way in to the forest?). The trailer shows a lot of similarities to the original, with people running through the woods terrified by a menace that we can’t see, and one character even ends up chest deep in a scary mud hole after trying to escape the night horrors.
Blair Witch officially hits theaters Sept. 16.
HollywoodLifers, are you stoked for a new Blair Witch sequel? Will you be heading to the theater to see it?
