Balling out! The Olympics continues when the United States Women’s basketball team open up group play against Spain on Aug. 8 at 11am EST. Follow the American ladies on their journey to gold online here!
Team USA will take on all comers in their pursuit for a podium spot at the 2016 Rio games. First up on the schedule for the American ladies will be the tough women of Spain. All the action in this first game will be happening at Deodoro Youth Arena in Rio. Spain will have their hands full cause the American team is loaded with ballers from the professional WNBA league. Elena Delle Donne is the 6’5″ forward from the Chicago Sky. Elena is a threat from anywhere around the arc, can penetrate too and is lethal on defense. Then there is the tall drink of water named Brittney Griner. The towering 6’8″ center can dunk the ball on the competition, literally. Watch for Brittney to have a huge impact on both sides of the court as she is capable of putting up some great numbers throughout the Olympics. When she is not in Rio, Brittney plays for the Phoenix Mercury.

There is a ton of depth on the American team and fans can expect them to go deep into Olympic play. It will be a massive effort for any country to knock the Americans from their gold medal spot already reserved for them on the podium in Rio. In addition to Elena and Brittney, Breanna Stewart is the young 21 year-old that rounds out the team. Breanna is a 6’4″ forward from New York who drops dimes for the Seattle Storm when she is not hooping in the Olympics.
