Kerron Clement just raced his way into the history books! Some of the best runners hit the track for the men’s 400m hurdles on Aug. 18, but it was only Kerron who took home the gold for the United States of America!
Do you think Van Halen’s “Jump” was going through Kerron Clement‘s, 30, head during the Men’s 400m hurdles race? After that epic run that scored him the gold medal, he might as well blast Queen’s “We Are The Champions.” He certainly deserves it!
He scored the gold with a time of 47.73 second, beating Boniface Mucheru, 24, of Kenya by just 0.05 seconds. Boniface finished with a time of 47.78, while Yasmani Copello, 29, of Turkey will get a Bronze medal with his time of 47.92 seconds. Congratulations to all three runners!

Going into this race, the U.S.’s Kerron was the heavy favorite to win. Though he failed to medal during the London 2012 games (due to an ankle injury), per The Washington Post, he took the silver at the 2008 Beijing games for the 400m and gold in the 4×400 relay. After running the fastest semifinal time on Aug. 16 and the second fastest of the entire year, he was suddenly the racer to beat.
Fans who have never seen a single Olympic race may recognize Kerron, thanks to Beyonce, 34. Kerron accompanied a friend who was hired to be a dancer in Bey’s “Run The World (Girls)” video. But, a 6’2 athlete is hard to ignore and he was picked to appear in a scene. “She said the guys she pointed at would be in the video. I was a little shocked,” Kerron said, “because I’m not really a Beyonce fan. I’m more of a Mariah Carey fan. But I was honored to be in the video. It was a lot fun.”

Another person having fun at Rio 2016 is Usain Bolt, 29, the fastest man alive. The sprinter had an epic challenge during the 100m final on Aug. 14, holding off USA’s Justin Gatlin to score the gold medal. He’s expected to pull off the same in the 200m race, since he won his qualifying heat so easily, it made him smile! Well, after winning the gold at the 400m hurdles Kerron also has a reason to be happy!
