Boxing is fully underway at Rio 2016 and two of America’s finest are ready to go the distance Gary Antuanne Russell, 20, will continue his path to light welterweight gold while light flyweight Nico Hernandez, 20, will continue his amazing run as well. Nico fights at 4:15 PM ET and Gary’s turn is at 5:45 PM ET.

Nico pulled of a huge upset when he downed Vasilii Egorov, as the Russian was the heavy favorite to win the gold in the light flyweight division. Before the fight, Nico vowed to “make the upset happen,” per NBC Sports, and he certainly did! He has a tough fight ahead of him in the form of Ecuador’s Carlos Quipo Pilataxi. Will this Cinderella story continue or will Nico’s Olympic dreams turn into just another fairy tale?

Gary Antuanne Russell has gold in his family tree. His three other brothers (all named Gary Russell) have each won National Golden Globes in the sweet science. He’s also the brother of an Olympian — sorta. Gary Russell Jr, 28, the current WBC welterweight champ, qualified for the 2008 Olympics but was knocked out before ever throwing a punch. Gary Jr. failed to make the weight cut and it’s a lesson that Gary Antuanne has learned well.
“I see the mistakes he made, and I see it in all of my older brothers,” he tells NBC Sports. I get to make corrections. I should be more pure at the end of everything. I believe that they’ve given me a certain desire, a certain integrity and higher morals. It’s made me a stronger person.”
Gary looks to make his father (and trainer) Gary Russell Sr. proud when he takes on Richardson Hitchins of Haiti in a Round of 32 match in the light welterweight class. Hopefully, Gary advance to the quarterfinals and possibly to the gold medal fight.
