Wow, what a way to kick off the summer games! The Rio Olympics opening ceremony on Aug. 5 is starting it off right with some amazing costumes, lively music, a stunning appearance by Gisele Bundchen and breathtaking entertainment. Teams from 206 nations and one refugee team are filling the Maracana Stadium in Rio for the huge event, and it’s definitely getting each and every one of them hyped to compete! As always, Team USA will look amazing decked out in a specially designed Ralph Lauren uniform. The look features a red, white, and blue striped shirt, a navy blazer with gold buttons, boat shoes, and chic white denim pants. This year, the fashion house has upped their game for Michael Phelps’ made-in-America suit, by making the logo on the back light up as he leads the team into the stadium. So cool!

The big opening ceremony will finally bring the attention back to the athletes, when it had unfortunately been drawn to less pleasant things in the days leading up to the games. First, various cases of the Zika virus sent panic around the world for fear of sickening their greatest athletes. Then, about one third of all of the athletes coming to the Olympics from Russia were disqualified when they were found to have been doping to improve their performance. Yikes! Hopefully after an inspiring ceremony, the games will get back on the right track!
