It’s local derby time as the New York Red Bulls host their fierce rivals, high-flyers New York City in a must-see MLS game on July 24 at 1pm EST at the Red Bull Arena. Click to watch the full 90-minutes with us, it’s going to be a classic!
This will be the third time these two teams have met this season, with each side recording a win against their city counterparts. City recently banished those demons, beating Red Bulls 2-0 on July 3. However, that was at Yankees Stadium, not the Red Bull arena.

So, you can feel some sympathy with City, who are bound to come into this with some trepidation. But with that said, they shouldn’t fear too much. That seems to be a blip in what has otherwise been a good season for blues, who still sit 3 points clear of the Philadelphia Union at the top of the 10-team Eastern Conference.

Much of that success for Patrick Vieira’s team has been down to the incredible form of veteran Spanish striker, David Villa. The former Barcelona forward has 13 goals in 21 games, and is the leading goalscorer in the MLS. He will take some controlling if the Red Bull defense is to keep him quiet.
The Red Bulls will also need to nullify the source of where David’s goals come from, and keep playmaker Thomas McNamara quiet to stop him from creating chances in the final third. They may even have to deploy a man-marker system to stop those through balls getting to David.
