So disappointing! Despite Katie Ledecky’s best efforts, the women’s 4×100 swimming team had to settle for second best and silver medals at the Rio Olympics 2016 on Aug. 6. And no doubt finishing second best to Australia was a bitter pill to swallow for US fans who were quick to voice their fury!
The US team, that comprised of Katie, Simone Manuel, Dana Vollmer, Abbey Weitzell got off to the best possible start in the race, leading from the first lap. But unfortunately, as the race went on we simply just couldn’t match the Australian team, who raced well ahead of us.
Even with the last gasp efforts of Katie, they couldn’t get close to the Aussies as Cate Campbell managed to race ahead and break the world record for her team in the process. They finished with a time of 3:30.65, and US fans weren’t happy about it!

And it all began so rosily for the Women’s 4×100 relay team as they blitzed through their heat earlier Aug. 6 with a great time of 3:33:59. It was the second best time of all the nations, but sadly they didn’t finish first there and were beaten by the Aussies in heat 2, who scored an incredible Olympic record time of 3:32:39.
Katie, who had the fastest split in the heats, will be hoping for better luck on Aug. 7 when she swims in the 200m, 400m and 800m. She’s gunning for gold in all three, as she attempts a five-medal haul at this Olympics. She’s a girl with a target, and you just have to admire that.
