It should come as no surprise that the Americans are considered the favorite to win the Olympic tournament. They haven’t lost an international game since settling for bronze at the 2004 Olympics, according to NESN. They defeated their main rivals, Spain, in the gold medal games in both 2008 and 2012.
Don’t expect the two squads to meet until the knockout rounds. Spain is in Group B, along with Argentina, Lithuania, Croatia, Nigeria and the home team, Brazil. USA is in Group B with Australia, Serbia, Venezuela and France. Speaking of the French squad, keep an eye out for them. With a players like Tony Parker, 34, Nic Batum, 27, and Rudy Gobert, 24, they could be the biggest threat to the US’s run for the gold.
Sadly, China may just be a road bump for the Americans. When the two teams met in a pair of preseason games, Team USA left the Chinese team in shambles. China lost 107-57 and 106-57. Will China start their stay in Rio on a down note, or will they pull off the biggest upset in the entire Olympics? There’s only one way to find out.
Who do you think is going to win this game, HollywoodLifers? Do you think the Dream Team will dominate or will China pull out a surprise victory?
