The women’s 3m springboard diving finals are here! Who will take home the gold, silver and bronze medals in Rio? While it’s been a tight race between the best of best from the U.S., Canada, China, Italy, Australia, Germany and many more, these divers are going have to pull out the best dives on each of their lists to come out on top! The final competition will begin August 14 at 3 PM EST / 12 PM PST and you can WATCH THE WOMEN’S 3m SPRINGBOARD DIVING FINAL HERE.
Each diver is required to perform five different dives in each round that are optional. The level of difficulty has no limit, but all five dive groups but be done at least once — forward, backward, reverse, inward and twisting. Three divers have a chance to win medals depending on the highest score in this final round.

The U.S competitor who’s been a stand-out star in the 2016 Olympic games is Abby Johnston, 26. After an amazing semifinals diving performance August 13, she is qualified for the 3m springboard final! The diver originally qualified for the Rio games coming in second at the U.S. Olympic trials, right behind her good friend, Kassidy Cook, 21. Kassidy was slated to be a lock for the finals, after qualifying first at trials, but unfortunately didn’t make the cut after a semifinals performance that wasn’t her best. Sadly, she will miss her chance at grabbing the gold. This is even more difficult for Kassidy since she was also unable to compete in the 2012 London Olympics due to a nasty shoulder injury.
Abby’s the diver to keep your eye on in the finals though, because the college student has garnered quite the reputation in the extremely disciplined sport. She’s currently a medical student at Duke University, and is the most notable hopeful to bring home the gold this year. Abby left the 2012 Olympic games in London with a silver medal in the women’s synchronized 3m springboard. Right after, she needed “17 months to recover from shoulder surgery” following the London games, according to the official Rio Olympics website.
