After welcoming their 1st child into the world this year, Thompson Square’s Keifer and Shawna admitted on the HollywoodLife.com podcast that their worlds were flipped upside down — in the best way! In fact, their son’s even been a MAJOR inspiration for them in the songwriting department. Listen here!
Since having their son back in Jan., a lot of things have changed for Shawna, 38, and Keifer Thompson, 40, of Thompson Square. But at the same time, they’re still touring, still writing songs, and honestly, they haven’t slowed down one bit! But aside from an “influx of emotions,” their little boy, Rigney Cooper Thompson, has brought them so much joy and “crazy” amounts of musical inspo! Hmm, do we sense a new album coming soon? LISTEN TO OUR FULL INTERVIEW WITH THOMPSON SQUARE HERE.
“We had our baby boy in January and he has completely turned our worlds upside down, but in an amazing way,” Shawna gushed to HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY when the married couple stopped by our podcast. “There has been crazy inspiration that has come from him being here. Keifer’s been writing a lot, he wrote a lot while I was pregnant and not able to perform.”
Pretty exciting, right? A new muse is NEVER a bad thing! And for Keifer, that burst of inspiration turned into something pretty amazing — not to mention a bit different for the singing duo. “I wouldn’t say a lot, but he’s inspired a few,” Shawna revealed when asked if baby Cooper has inspired new songs. However, as it turn out, Keifer wrote a kids song, which is definitely something new for the pair!
“He was changing Cooper one day and I heard him singing this little tune and I asked if his mom had sang it to him, and he was like ‘no I just wrote it.’ We’re turning it into a kids book!” How cool is THAT? “It’s finished and illustrated. I don’t know when it’ll be published,” Keifer added.
But inspiring a kid’s song isn’t the only way Cooper has influenced his parents’ work as well as their personal lives. Keifer even confessed that the little cutie has not only inspired them “directly” but also “indirectly.” “Just the influx of emotion you get from having a kid and becoming a parent for the first time,” Keifer said when asked how Cooper has changed him and his wife’s perspective on life.

“We waited a little bit longer than most parents to have kids, we really wanted to have our ducks in a row, have our career worked out. The plan was to never have kids and one day we just decided to do it. We got it done.” And while the pair admitted that kids were not initially in their plan, they eventually gave in and decided that parenthood would be a beautiful thing for them.
“At one point I was like, ‘Shawna I want a kid,'” Keifer told us. “I couldn’t lie to myself anymore and pretend I didn’t want to be a dad. I didn’t want to be 60 years old and look back on my life and say I wish I had been a parent.” And when little Cooper was finally born? “It was just everything,” the new dad gushed. “All those emotions were all wrapped up in one.” And Shawna agrees. “It felt like our relationship came full circle,” she said. Aw!
And while we definitely can’t wait to hear Shawna and Keifer’s new children’s song, until it comes out, we have their AMAZING new song, “You Make It Look So Good,” to tie us over. Take a listen to it above and let us know what you think — isn’t it beautiful?
